Given that HBO have now released a poster for Game of Thrones Season 6, it is probably time to talk about some theories about what may happen in the new season. There will be spoilers ahead..

Jon Snow will rise from the dead

Game of Thrones Season 6There are plenty of theories out there about this and here is probably the most realistic. Given that Melisandre was present at the Wall just before his death, then there is the possibility that she will raise Jon from the dead. The question is, will he be different? Will his brush with death have made him more ruthless, or something else altogether? Given that he was the Lord Commander, what happens now to the Night’s Watch?

Although, my question is: Is this just HBO building hype for the new season? The file name on the official page is ‘season-6-tease’ so that doesn’t tell us much. I think the poster does give something away, in that we never saw Snow bleeding from the head region at the end of last seasonĀ andĀ the blood seems to be running down his face, so he has to have been upright at some time.

If you think that the resurrection story line is a bit too unrealistic, you must be forgetting Beric Dondarion

Return of Bran

This one isn’t really a theory, but more an informed guess. It is pretty apparent that Bran will be back in Season 6. The last we saw of him was at the end of Season 4 when he had reached the Weirwood for his chat with the Three Eyed Raven. As the showrunners themselves have confirmed, they feel that having training montages would have been lame (I’m paraphrasing) and that Bran returning as a full powered Warg would be far more dramatic and exciting for viewers.

Other theories

What Culture has the list of names of the episodes for Season Six and have surmised what they think will happen in the coming season. Given that the names of episodes (looking at them with hindsight) tend to be quite literal, then What Culture may be pretty close with their approximations.

Unanswered Questions

There are plenty of questions that have been unanswered, and with the show looking to only run 8 seasons there is plenty left to cover in the remaining 3 seasons, some of the main points (feel free to comment more below):

  • The showdown between Cersei and the Tyrells;
  • What is going to happen with Tyrion and especially Jorah, now that he has Greyscale;
  • When will the Greyjoy family make their move from the Iron Isles, they have been absent for a while now;
  • Did both Sansa and Theon survive the leap, and if so, where to from here for them?
  • When is Ramsay Bolton going to finally get his comeuppance?
