Hi, I’m an Australian based Psychologist. I also own and manage a psychology practice which has both an online and in person presence, but this website right here is my hobby. I have a range of experience in clinical settings from drug and alcohol rehabilitations to hospitals and private practice, working with a range of clinical presentations including depression, anxiety, substance abuse and personality disorders.
This site is written to answer the questions that you may have about popular characters in television, cinema and literature and to look deeper into character development and understanding. It would be great to hear some feedback, or of any characters or films that you would like to know more about from a psychological perspective. I believe that through analysing fiction through the eyes of a psychologist we may be better able to understand human behaviour, psychology and psychopathology.
I interested in the psychology of why I feel so powered after watching SOA. (Am currently finishing season 2 — spoilers please). I felt similarly when I watch Breaking Bad (also as a marathon watching) . When I said to my daughter that after viewing I felt more sure of myself and my convictions, boundaries etc. — she agreed , saying the SE thing happened to her. It feels similar to my perspective & thinking/feeling after attending a motivational speakers seminar.
PLEASE EXPLAIN. I am fascinated!!!!! Thank you.
Wow… “Auto correct” typos!! Hope you can decipher!

Hi Lily, I think the main reason is that the characters in shows tend to live out the lives, confrontations and actions that we could only dream of. When we see this on television, we can associate it with our life, and therefore feel more confident than we would in everyday life.
Hi! This is such a cool website, very insightful and interesting. I work for a company that uses wearable sensors to extract emotional information of TV viewers. Check it out here, and I’d be really grateful if you promoted our latest service that people can sign up to for free: http://www.synetiq.net/tester
